Wearing Our Hearts Out With Nightly

Band Brings Love and Light to the Underground

Sweet alt-pop vibes filled the air at the Underground Charlotte as Nightly came to town with their Wear Your Heart Out Tour. The band has been out on tour promoting their latest record and for the Charlotte stop they brought Knox and Abby Holliday along for the ride playing to a capacity crowd that was super-hyped for the performance.

Getting things started was Nashville-based singer-songwriter Abby Holliday. Taking the stage with her backing band, Abby quickly won over the audience with her solid songs and down-to-earth personality. It’s hard not to like her especially when she’s belting out songs like “I’M OK NO I’M NOT” which I think everyone can relate to at times. Holliday is definitely a star on the rise so be sure and keep an eye on her because I’m positive we are going to be seeing and hearing a lot more from Abby in the not-so-distant future.

Speaking of rising stars, up next was the one and only Knox. Winning over the hearts and souls of fans everywhere with his latest EP I’m So Good at Being Alone,? Knox is truly something special. The second he stepped out onto the stage, he lit up the venue with his smile and the crowd roared in appreciation. From the soulful feel of “Man Down” to the beautiful lament of “We’re Not In Love Anymore,” Knox knocks it out of the ballpark. His voice carries over the fans at the Underground and he quickly moves from one musical style to another without hesitation all the while holding the crowd in his grip. Knox has already garnered a huge fan base and his career and musical aspirations can only go up from here. Don’t sleep on Knox! You’ll be missing some amazing music if you do.

Closing things out was the reason for the evening, Nightly. The band has gone from who to huge in a very short time frame and it was clear from a look at the audience that they were absolutely and unequivocally enamored with Nightly. Once their set began, it was easy to see why the fans loved them so much.

The stage was set up with a small LED screen at the rear and drummer Nicholas Sainato’s kit was situated stage right. There was a black, metal mailbox next to his kit and at the rear of the stage, there was a park bench and a pay phone. What is a pay phone you may ask? It’s how we “old” folks had to make a call way back in the day when we were away from home. At this point, I was intrigued. Guitarist Joseph Beretta makes his way out and lead vocalist Jonathan Capeci takes a call at the payphone before kicking things off with the title track of their latest record.

So far, so good. The band sounded amazing, Capeci’s vocals were on point and Beretta was fierce as fire on the guitar, long dreadlocks flowing behind him as he moved and grooved. Sainato kept the rhythm steady and strong all night. As the set continued on, we were treated to “whiskey part 2” and “Radiohead.” But the real show stopper was “Dirty White Chucks,” as I laughed and looked around to see who might be rocking some Chucks of their own in the audience tonight.

Capeci was a terrific frontman, interacting with the crowd all night. He had us clapping and throwing our hands in the air and even made his way to the barricade to sing directly to the lucky fans in the very front.  We even had Knox make another appearance to sing one with the band. It was a terrific show and nobody wanted it to end. Alas, all good things must, and after a dreamy performance of “like i do,” it was time for us to head out and go home.

What a show! Nightly was amazing. The night was full of energy as fans sang and danced as one with love, light, and hope. Be sure to catch Nightly the next time they stop in your town. The dreamy, pop vibes and bouncing energy will feed your heart and soul.
