Summer Time Vibes With The Long Beach Dub All Stars
Sharing in the groove with The Long Beach Dub All Stars and friends.
Summertime vibes do not get much better than being outdoors on an evening in a relaxing environment. Throw in live music and you have the perfect mix for a good time. The Cohab Space in High Point North Carolina has provided a space that maximizes this recipe and through their collaboration with Ziggy’s NC has brought in some great live acts including this night with The Long Beach Dub All Stars.
Arriving early to Cohab Space is always recommended. Not because you have to search for a good seat or fight traffic but simply because the venue itself has so much to enjoy. As we arrived early this evening it was super nice to grab some food from their on-site food truck, some drinks, and simply wander around checking out some vendors and of course the merch tent.
With just enough time to take in the space, we were soon greeted by the local openers on the bill The Hypnotic Conquest.
These guys were a perfect fit for this bill. Their reggae-rock sound was clearly birthed from acts like the Long Beach Dub All Stars but also adds more from the world of jam to craft their unique vibe and music. Playing with plenty of enthusiasm it was a little tough to pull folks away from the bean bag chairs, but to be honest, was a perfect soundtrack to sit back and lounge.
Joining the Long Beach Dub All Stars on this leg of their tour, Keep Flying was next to take the stage and the energy level was about to take a drastic change.
Keep Flying is a punk/ska band with a sound very reminiscent of the early 2000s pop-punk scene and they immediately took the energy level to the max just as soon as they took the stage.
Clearly enjoying themselves in spite of the 90-something-degree heat and stage lights they were a treat to watch and listen to as they engaged the crowd and roared through their set.
As the sun began to set, and the heat dialed back just a bit it was time for the evening’s headliners The Long Beach Dub All Stars to take the stage. With a pretty storied and lengthy history this version of The Long Beach Dub All Stars are keeping the vibe going and helping continue a sound that has evolved into its own genre and a new generation of bands within it. Stepping to the stage and immediately laying into a groove the band took a few minutes just to set the foundation. The audience began to fill in the front of the stage and singer Opie Ortiz joined the lineup on stage and the performance was on. With such variety in their mash-up of dub reggae, ska, and rock, the band capitalizes on controlling the energy through their set from laid-back grooves to high-energy blasts of sound and masterfully takes us in the audience along for the ride.
As someone who is always in pursuit of good vibes this evening of music fully delivered. From the venue to the people and of course, the music, positivity was fully on display. I am pretty sure I can speak for everyone in attendance this evening in saying that an overall good time was had by all and the music shared by all the acts was the perfect complement to a summer evening and some time well spent.
