Pearl Jam Deliver A Raw Rock and Roll Experience For New Jersey Fans

Rock ‘N Roll Isn’t Dead

Just days after Pearl Jam headlined Madison Square Garden on September 11th, the band played yet another massive gig, this time in Camden, NJ at The Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on the Camden Waterfront with the City of Brotherly Love Philadelphia as the backdrop.

Diehard PJ fans got to the venue bright and early like 6 am early to line up on the merch lines for the band’s exclusive merch for this particular tour date, a special tradition Pearl Jam has been doing in each city. Those lines didn’t calm down as show time neared either, I’ve never seen this venue this packed.

The band is on tour in support of 2020’s Gigaton album and this tour is one that fans waited 900 and something days for after cancellations due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Fear not though because Eddie Vedder and company brought their whole catalog and it’s not the same setlist night after night.

Pearl Jam 18-1

If you’ve never seen Pearl Jam live, you may be surprised to see that this isn’t your typical big band rock show, instead Pearl Jam makes arenas and stadiums feel quite intimate. If you came for flashy lights and big screens and pyro, well this may not be the show for you, this is for the fan who wants to experience the music raw and untouched and authentic.

The guys take the stage draped in dark blue light and they walk on this tour taking their seats at stools, they kick off their set sitting down and a little slowed down with opening tracks “Wash”, “Oceans” and “Daughter” all while jamming out on their seats in very low light.

Pearl Jam 15-1

Vedder, McCready, Matt Cameron, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard and touring/session keyboardist Boom Gaspar sound as good as ever, it’s somewhat of a spiritual experience hearing the tones of Eddie Vedder’s voice live and for nearly 2 and a half hours Pearl Jam delivers a career spanning slugfest.

The nights set include 21 songs which included “Even Flow”, “Quick Escape”, “Animal”, a cover of Van Halen’s “Eruption” and “Porch” and that’s all before the band comes back for another 7 songs, I repeat 7 song encore which includes “Alive” “Leash” “Inside Job” and a cover version of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”.

Pearl Jam 8-1

28 songs later and the Pearl Jam fan base could have done 20 more, but the mutual respect and admiration between the fans and the band are quite apparent and really awesome to see live as well. Pearl Jam is a must to catch live if you can snag some tickets!
