nothing, nowhere. Introduces a Sold Out Songbyrd to the Trauma Factory
Date: October 8th, 2021
Venue: Songbyrd
Washington, DC
Hey you! Yeah, you! Have you been looking to fill your playlists and speakers with some new names and rock vibes that will be appearing more in the coming years? Well, look no further because this night of music at the Songbyrd Music House was full of artists who deserve your attention. nothing, nowhere. has been in the music scene for a few years and is finally getting the respect he has more than earned. Through writing and producing all of his own music, he’s able to create raw, authentic music that naturally makes itself relatable to many fans, myself included.
To kick off this epic night of music was thebreathingbackwards from Ohio. Upon taking the stage around 8 pm, the room had already filled with music fans ready to rock out. In celebration of his latest EP Arrowhead that was released just a week earlier on October 1st, the set consisted of songs new and old. Songs such as “Never Going Back” blend rock with rap and pop-punk hooks, lyrically inviting you into the mind where darkness can reside while sung with emotion and powerful vocals. Make sure to take a moment to go stream his music and give a follow on social media to stay up to date on the latest releases.
The second act of the night came to us by way of Ontario, Canada. In fact, it was Arm’s Length’s first time in DC. This band of four has found themselves on their first tour and from the crowd’s reaction and the energy they bring it certainly won’t be their last. They got the audience jumping around while leaving everything they had on the stage, including a broken guitar string from rocking so damn hard. Their performance of songs from February’s Everything Nice EP as well as other songs from their catalog proved that this group knows how to have a good time and demands more time on stage across the states.
Taking us into the second half of the evening was a band Rolling Stone calls “one of 2021’s most exciting new rock acts” and they aren’t wrong because Meet Me @ The Altar is quickly finding its way into the hearts of many and up on the charts. This power trio of women was welcomed to the stage with an introduction that prepared us to have our “socks rocked off” and oh how accurate that was. From the moment they stepped on stage, you could feel the energy and positivity they emitted as a band, and on this night they were a five-piece band as they were accompanied by an additional bassist and guitarist. Lead singer Edith along with all of her bandmates holds nothing back as the entire set is filled with hair-flying, head-banging, sing-a-long moments.
Throughout their set, they celebrated their latest and debut EP on Fueled By Ramen’s label with Model Citizen and songs like “Now or Never” which brought an insane amount of energy to the room provided by the band and the crowd. It’s also the latest song that’s been brought to life through a music video. Their pop-punk songs find ways to remain electric and original while also reminding one of acts such as Paramore. Rounding out their set was a melody of classic hits like “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit before ending the night with one of their most popular songs to date with “Garden.”
The time had then come for the main act of the night, the artist many had been waiting years to see, literally as the last show scheduled here got canceled due to covid. There were fans that said how his music had helped them through tough times and many were seen wearing his merchandise in support. I am of course talking about nothing,nowhere.. With the release of Trauma Factory in February of 2021, the tour centered around its release as the band also wore jackets marked “Trauma Unit.” As lights dropped and then appeared from behind we were transported into his world with the latest single titled “Pieces of You.” A song that had just been released a few days earlier but has already begun to make its way up the charts.
His songs create a sense of unity as his voice and unfiltered lyrics create stories and imagery that find ways to feel naturally relatable. Songs such as “nightmare” and “lights (4444)” created standout moments with crowd singalongs with an occasional mosh thrown in. Then there are songs like “dread” that seek to understand “when the pain stops” and “fake friend” that continue to draw art from life’s experiences in a way few could ever match.
Closing out the night with an encore performance of “Nevermore” after being called back to the stage, it was clear that he’s an artist that will find himself selling out larger venues in the near future. Perhaps it’s his own song “hammer” that shares his journey throughout his career that summarizes his music best though… as he states “all my sh*t bang like a motherf*%kin’ hammer.” It’s true. There’s not a song in his catalog that doesn’t prove it’s worth being in your music library.
nothing, nowhere. is currently touring North America on both a headlining tour as well as supporting All Time Low and will cross over to the UK at the beginning of 2022. So make sure to get your tickets now before these shows sell out much as DC did.
