BJÖRK UNVEILS CAPTIVATING NEW VIDEO FOR ‘SORROWFUL SOIL’

Björk has shared her music video for ‘Sorrowful Soil’. Directed by Viðar Logi, it sees her singing at the recently erupted Icelandic volcano Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes peninsula. Dormant for six thousand years before 2021, the landscape’s torrid visuals make for an epic backdrop.

The track is taken from her new album, fossora, out now via One Little Independent Records.

“sorrowful soil is a song i wrote from random improvisations .. i kinda
thought i was writing another song but then when i edited it i threw away
most of the stuff and this is what stood there staring at me

for me, sorrowful soil and ancestress are the 2 songs on fossora written
for my mother … ancestress is my take on funeral-music but sorrowful soil
is written 2 years before and mirrors more that last chapter .

at the time i had been working with the fantastic hamrahlid choir and
wanted to give them the piece they deserved , and with that intention
unknowingly wrote what the conductor þorgerður ingólfsdóttir said was the
most difficult piece they ever sang . it has 9 voices, not the usual 4 ( sopran,
alt, teno , bass ) which took the choir evenings of a whole summer to rehearse,
i am so incredibly grateful to them for this sacrifice and you can hear all
of it in the recording

the lyric is an attempt for an eulogy and instead of the dry fact checking :
place of birth , job, marriage , i wanted to celebrate the biological data like
the fact that most girls are born with 400 eggs … and then in their lifetime
they make 2-3 nests…

when my grandfather passed away there was a pamphlet at the
hospital advising relatives how to talk to loved ones before they pass away.
i loved how it went really generic and universal and said that all of them
will give families to-do-lists (dry-cleaning and such)

but also ask if they did well .

the last part of the lyric is following this advice”

Björk is a multidisciplinary artist who, time and again, innovates across music, art, fashion and technology. From writing, arranging and producing an expansive music catalogue to her collaborations with scientists, app developers, writers, inventors, musicians and instrument makers, Björk continues to inspire and experiment, redefining the boundaries of what it means to be a musician.

GRAMMY®-NOMINATED SINGER/SONGWRITER TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM

BROKEN BY DESIRE TO BE HEAVENLY SENT ON MAY 19th

CAPALDI TO KICK OFF NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR IN MARCH

ecember 2, 2022 — (Hollywood, CA) — Today, GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer and songwriter Lewis Capaldi premieres his passionate new single “Pointless” — download/stream HERE and watch the “Pointless” (Acoustic) video HERE. A gorgeously detailed portrait of love’s all-consuming power, “Pointless” is the second single released from the Scottish hitmaker’s forthcoming sophomore album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, due out via Capitol Records on May 19. Go HERE to pre-order the album now.

One of the first songs penned by Capaldi for Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent“Pointless” took shape from a song fragment his co-writers Steve Mac and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid had created with Ed Sheeran. “Ed had that lyric, ‘I bring her coffee in the morning, she brings me inner peace,’ and pretty much every other line of that opening was just banging,” says Capaldi. Immediately inspired to continue that narrative, Capaldi soon built “Pointless” into an epic reflection on the give-and-take in romantic relationships, beautifully capturing moments both small and profound. A piano-driven number laced with lush strings and powerful percussion, the result is an irresistible showcase for the raw yet graceful vocal work that has won Capaldi a massive global following in recent years.

“Pointless” follows Capaldi’s gold-certified smash single Forget Me, a September release that amassed over two million streams in just 24 hours and quickly marked his third consecutive UK No. 1 hit. With its unforgettable official video serving up a shot-for-shot remake of Wham’s 1983 hit “Club Tropicana,” “Forget Me” arrived as the lead single from Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent — a highly anticipated album that pushes forward with the piercingly honest songwriting and soul-stirring vocal work Capaldi first delivered on his 2019 full-length debut, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. Made with longtime collaborators including TMS, producer/songwriter Phil Plested (James Bay, Bastille) and heavyweights like super-producer Max Martin (Taylor Swift, The Weeknd), Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent ultimately finds Capaldi doubling-down on his longtime artistic mission. “I don’t want to create a new sound for myself, or reinvent myself,” he says. “The songs I want to write are emotional songs, about love or loss.”

Along with selling over 10 million albums worldwide — propelling Capaldi from bedroom musician to global pop superstar — Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent offered up such iconic singles as “Someone You Loved”: a platinum-selling ballad that recently emerged as the UK’s most streamed song of all time. In addition, “Someone You Loved” earned a GRAMMY® nomination for Song of the Year, won the Song of the Year prize at the Brit Awards, and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and US Top 40 charts. Hailed by likes of Rolling StoneThe New York TimesGQStereogum (who noted that Capaldi “wields those vocal cords like a velvet sledgehammer”), and TIME (who stated that “Capaldi’s talent is tugging at heartstrings – or rather, pulling at them with all his vocal might”), Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent also marked the biggest-selling UK album of both 2019 and 2020.

Having recently sold out his 2023 UK arena tour in a matter of seconds — with additional shows around the world selling out in record time — Capaldi will embark on a headlining tour of North America next spring. See the full list of tour dates and venues below, and go HERE for all ticketing info.

WE ARE SCIENTISTS Unveil Dazzling Indie Pop Number “Lucky To Just Be Here”

December 2, 2022 (NEW YORK, NY) — New York indie juggernauts WE ARE SCIENTISTS have teased more new material from their forthcoming record LOBES (release date: January 20, 2023 via Masterswan Recordings) with their dazzling single “Lucky Just To Be Here.”Reducing the tempo but ratcheting the intensity, the new track simmers before it boils, offering a contrast to the two breakneck tunes already released from the pair’s recently announced eighth studio album. You can stream the track here

Starting off with a quiet bed of synth and a pulsing, heartbeat-like kick drum, “Lucky To Just Be Here” leaves room for vocalist Keith Murray to indulge in nostalgic rumination. Propulsively building to a musical crescendo, the song is catharsis in audio form, matching Murray’s devastating lyrics before disolving into a lonely and isolating denouement.. It’s vintage We Are Scientists and showcases their musicality, penchants for hooks, and creativity.

In addition to the new music, We Are Scientists have two special U.S. shows planned leading up to the release: One in Vegas and one in their hometown NYC. On December 3rd, the band will be playing a free rooftop show at the launch of BrewDog‘s Largest Bar in the World in Las Vegas, to be followed by a record release show for Lobes on January 20th at Brooklyn Made in Brooklyn More US dates to be announced in the coming months. Starting off with a quiet bed of synth and a pulsing, heartbeat-like kick drum, “Lucky To Just Be Here” leaves room for vocalist Keith Murray to indulge in nostalgic rumination. The upcoming new album follows on from their acclaimed 2021 record HUFFY, and while the origins of songs written for Lobes began around the same time, the impression so far suggests they grew into an entirely different musical universeThe album’s lead single “Operator Error” and follow-up “Less From You” are an exciting taste of the fresh direction expected on Lobes.

We consider Huffy our daytime record – it’s an upbeat rock album designed to soundtrack jetski rides to the Bahamas and piña colada in aquamarine-tiled jacuzzis,” says Murray. “Our new album, Lobes, however, is our nighttime album. Overall, it’s more electronic, dancier, more ominous, and way sexier than Huffy.”

Lucky To Just Be Here” is out today, December 2, 2022. The band’s new album Lobes  is due out  January 20, 2023via Masterswan Recordings. Pre-order the album here. The band is available for interviews.

Tarah Who? Feat. Laura Chevalier – Royal Knight.

LA-based, French-born project, Tarah Who? who is, “not a question that needs to be answered. Tarah Who? is a rising statement in the progressive punk/grunge scene” (Carl Lawrence Knauf)  Central songwriter Tarah Carpenter pits thrashy drums and discordant guitars against an assault of anthemic vocals: a musical concoction that has defined Tarah Who?’s discography since her self-titled debut in 2006. Fast-forward a decade and a half later, Carpenter finally met with long-time social media friend,  a French musician and actress, who has lent her skills to electro rock bands Puss In Boots, Only for Disco, Dead Sexy Inc, Aloha Sun, Belair Polo Club, The videos, Aston Villa, to name a few. During COVID lockdown Carpenter began working on new material and Chavalier joined the collaboration, and Tarah Who?’s upcoming dark punk single “Royal Knight” was born. Due out December 2, 2022, an accompanying video shot in a Parisian castle, features many of Carpenter’s family members. Carpenter states, “The song is about the different states of mind of people during the lockdown. I wanted to do something different for this video and have different actors to illustrate what the song is about.” The song is the first single from the project’s forthcoming album, The Collaboration Project,   due out April 28. 2023.

Until next week!
