New to the Airwaves – Albums Out This Week (August 4th)

New Tunes for your weekend:

Happy Music Friday!.This week is a fun one. My personal calendar is a conglomerate of nearly every genre of music, festival, and comedy special that a decade ago I would have dreamed would be my life. The beauty of entertainment and music – I am loving every moment. In these tiny moments I get to hear new music that gets my heart revving, this weeks contenders were hard to narrow down but a few are:

Dia’s Picks:
  • “This Isn’t Me” – Towa Bird. Towa is dream synth pop done right.
  • “Liar Liar” – Dylan ft. Bastille. The pairing of this duo is enigmatic. The energy pop from this single is one you always dig for.
  • “Joy” – Post Malone. A fun bonus track on his new album Austin.
  • “Someone Like You” – Giant Rooks, We fell in love with them in a photo pit not too long ago. TUNE IN!

What album are you most looking forward to? Comment below!

To wrap up this week, we’ve got some much-anticipated arrivals that have us tapping our toes, crossing our arms, and screeching, “Finally!” We’re sure you can see which ones we think you should grab and which ones we think may deserve a pass (cough). Dive in at your own risk, and let’s hear your picks!

**All dates are for U.S. releases unless otherwise noted. Dates are subject to change.

THREE-TIME GRAMMY WINNER DARIUS RUCKER SETS CAROLYN’S BOY FOR OCTOBER 6

New Song “Have A Good Time” Available Now as Fires Don’t Start Themselves” Climbs at Country Radio

Personally-Curated Riverfront Revival Music Festival Returns to Charleston, S.C. October 7 & 8

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Having previously teased the forthcoming project on NBC’S “TODAY,” Diamond-certified star Darius Rucker announces that his first solo album in six years, Carolyn’s Boy, is set for release Oct. 6 via UMG Nashville and available for preorder now. Brand new song “Have A Good Time” is also available everywhere today, Aug. 4, as a further preview of the project alongside his latest single “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” currently climbing the charts at Country radio.

“I wanted to name the record Carolyn’s Boy because Mom never got to see any of my success,” Rucker explained during the “TODAY” interview. “She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.”

When asked why now is the right time to honor her, Rucker was reflective, conceding, “years ago, I wasn’t really sure what my place in Country music was and I was trying to find it. Now I have found it – I know – and I think it’s time to give that record.”

Rucker will return to “TODAY” on September 1 to perform new songs off the project along with his fan-favorite hits as part of the Citi Concert Series. Fans can also catch Rucker on his Starting Fires Tour, currently underway, and he’ll bring the new music to his hometown of Charleston, S.C. during his personally-curated Riverfront Revival Music Festival as it returns for a second year on album release weekend (Oct. 7 & 8).

In celebration of the album announcement, Riverfront Revival is offering a limited allotment of 6-Pack GA Weekend Ticket Bundles, allowing fans to bundle and save $15 per pass while supplies last at RiverfrontRevival.com. Showcasing the best of country and rock music along with the finest in food, arts and culture the Lowcountry has to offer, the 2023 lineup includes Rucker, Turnpike Troubadours, Lainey Wilson, Band of Horses and more.

MAKING LOLLAPALOOZA DEBUT THIS SUMMER

MORE MUSIC COMING SOON

NEW YORK, NY (August 4, 2023) — After piling up hundreds of millions of streams and captivating audiences worldwide, buzzing German indie rock outfit Giant Rooks uncover an uplifting new single entitled “Somebody Like You” via Mercury/Republic Records.

On the song the band said:

“We wrote ‘Somebody Like You’ in just a few hours in our rehearsal room,
playing and writing together as a band releases a special energy and we tried to capture that feeling on the record. Lyrically we wanted to explore a vignette form of songwriting, telling different stories of different characters in each verse. Something we‘ve never done before.”

On the track, bright guitars coast over a hypnotic beat punctuated by celestial chimes. The hook takes flight to the heavens with an undeniable and unshakable confession, “I let my guard down for the moment. Wherever you go, I’ll be going too. I’ve been waiting for somebody like you.” It stands out as another skyscraping arena-ready anthem.

Stay tuned for the premiere a high-energy music video to accompany the track.

JORJA SMITH UNVEILS NEW SINGLE

“GO GO GO”

NEW ALBUM FALLING OR FLYING OUT SEPTEMBER 29

Further to climbing the charts with her latest summer single “Little Things,” today Jorja Smith has unveiled her third offering of 2023 in the form of “GO GO GO” a propulsive indie-adjacent track that nods to Jorja’s teen love of groups like Jaws, The Kooks and Bombay Bicycle Club. “ GO GO GO’ is kind of a f you song. Why do people have to kiss and tell, kind of vibe.” she candidly states. I’m in my little alternative bag, but I’ve always kind of been in it. People might be like, ‘I didn’t expect this’, but I’m like: ‘well, I would!’”

Directed by Amber Grace Johnson, the accompanying video was shot in Marseille earlier this year and details an argument between two lovers which ultimately sees Jorja depart the relationship after her other half has betrayed her trust; a defiant nod to one’s right to privacy, especially when in the public eye.

Of the many British voices in music today, Jorja is among the most commanding, writing at a pitch of intensity and urgency that few can match. Over the past five and half years, since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album Lost & Found, she has been celebrated unanimously across the world for her evocative song-writing, powerful delivery, pure emotion and unbridled talent as a young woman navigating her way through life. It was in 2021 that Jorja’s hiatus from music was broken – enter Be Right Back, the holding space between the sensation that was Lost & Found, and her next project. Be Right Back was born from playing, jamming, freestyling, and sounding out what Jorja had been on the edge of expressing all her life. It was a project entirely for her fans. “Be Right Back did exactly what I wanted it to do. It was a little waiting room so people knew I was coming back.”

And come back she did – entering a chapter of her return to music that’s certain to draw in and intoxicate Jorja’s fans and new listeners alike. And what has changed for her, in the five years since Lost & Found dominated the charts and the soundscape? “I like this world that I’ve just come into. And I’m still figuring things out. Always figuring things out.” Jorja says. “This is the first time I’m putting stuff out there that I can connect with right now.” Over the last few years, it’s been a reflective and transformative step into her mid twenties for her. She’s been able to step into herself and evolve as a songwriter and a woman despite an ever-changing musical landscape.

While she recognizes that the global pandemic has been completely devastating, she acknowledges that it allowed her to stay still, to come more into herself, and to be more in control of the person she is, and of her musical output. Like some of the legendary musicians that came before her, Jorja is looking at the chaos and disorder in the world right now with resourceful, refined eyes, and she sees the glorious opportunity and enormous responsibility that affords.
