Ne-Yo Brings The Romance To Charlotte

The Champagne and Roses Tour Stops at Skyla Credit Union Ampitheatre

With his distinctive tenor and a falsetto that can bring the heat, R&B singer Ne-Yo is nothing short of smooth. His voice can make you shed a tear as well as get up and groove and his slick dance moves positively make the ladies swoon. Recently, Ne-Yo stopped in the Queen City bringing his Champagne and Roses Tour to Skyla Credit Union Ampitheatre for an evening of smooth grooves.

As the crowd began filtering into the venue, a DJ was on stage to get the crowd up and moving in anticipation of what was to come. It wasn’t long before the night’s opening act, Pleasure P hit the stage in fine form. Pleasure P made a name for himself as part of the group Pretty Ricky before embarking on a solo career of his own. He got the party going early as he brought his own blend of R&B, pop, and a little hip-hop to get the crowd properly warmed up. The Grammy-nominated star put on a short, but very sweet showcase of his best and it was a perfect introduction to a night of musical pleasures.

Next up was the one and only MARIO. The talented singer recently put out a brand new EP Closer To Mars and to say that the audience was excited to hear it was an understatement. The second MARIO made his way out onto the stage a rush of ladies made their way to the front of the stage to catch a closer glimpse at the singer. With his black glittery jacket, he glided across the stage belting out song after song as he engaged the audience with his fine moves. The crowd was definitely getting hyped and the amount of attention he was getting from the ladies was off the charts. MARIO’s vocals sounded great and he was a great addition to the tour. From the reaction of the fans, it wouldn’t surprise me if we see a headlining tour in MARIO’s near future.

After the requisite break between artists, it was time for the main event, and what an event it was. The stage setup was fairly simple with a huge LED screen displaying Ne-Yo at the rear of the stage. We got our first glimpse of the man behind the hat as Ne-Yo appeared from behind the screen at the rear of the stage, making his way out to the center of the stage kicking things off with “Closer” from his Year of the Gentleman record.

Dressed in a red suit, black shirt, tie, and red hat perched lopsided atop his head, Ne-Yo was indeed a vision of a distinguished gentleman as he serenaded the audience with his sweet, soulful pipes. During the performance, Ne-Yo was backed by a troupe of dancers who brought a sexy, sultry edge to the show with neatly choreographed dance moves varying from song to song.

The show even got a little risque at times as the dancers got down and dirty with Ne-Yo. I think the older gentleman seated next to me may have been close to having a cardiac event as he hooped and hollered as his date smiled and laughed. A few lucky fans were even brought up on stage for a dance competition, getting the chance to show off their moves to the crowd and Ne-Yo himself.

What a fun show! Ne-Yo brought all the right moves and then some as he had us dancing and romancing all night long. The next time Ne-Yo is in your town, don’t miss your chance to catch this amazing artist live and in person.
