Muscadine Bloodline Get Rowdy in Charlotte
Me On You Tour Part II Sells Out The Underground
It’s Friday night in the Queen City and things are about to get rowdy as the country duo known as Muscadine Bloodline is playing a sold-out show at The Underground Charlotte. Hailing from Mobile, Alabama, Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton are taking their Southern roots straight to the top of the country music scene. Their unique blend of country and southern rock put them at the pinnacle of today’s modern country sound. With contemporary vocals, beautiful harmonies, and sizzling guitars, Muscadine Bloodline is part rock, part romance, and authentic as hell. The duo just released their latest album Teenage Dixie which is already beginning its steady ascent to the top with solid tracks that are easily relatable and even easier to listen to. Their current Me On You Tour Part II brought the duo here to Charlotte for a special evening of music the likes of which we haven’t seen in a very, long time.
Opening up the show was singer-songwriter Tyler Halverson. Dubbing his sound as Western Amerijuana Music, Tyler is truly classic country western for the modern day. Armed with his acoustic guitar and harmonica, Halverson quickly won the audience over with solid story-telling songs that accentuated his vocal gifts. His guitar sounded exquisite and provided a perfect backdrop to his songs punctuated but his dreamy harp playing as a bonus.
Tyler treated us to a variety of tunes including “Codigo GoGo” and “‘94 Camaro.” Things really got heated up later in his set when he told us he was going to sing a song about a rapper and kicked into “Mac Miller” and everyone was singing and dancing along to “Beer Garden Baby.” Tyler’s talent is out of this world and I’m sure that we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from him in the not so distant future.
After a short break, it was time for the main event, and what an event it was! Charlie took his spot behind his mic, black acoustic guitar strapped on as Gary ran out fist in the air. For the tour, the duo brought along a full band including an additional guitarist, a bass guitarist, and a drummer to round out the sound and really bring the songs to life. Kicking things off with “Dead On Arrival,” Muscadine Bloodline was on fire from the very first notes. The capacity crowd was going wild with a mix of ages from older couples to twenty-somethings and even a few families with their kids down in front. Cowboy hats were perched atop heads and plenty of boots were kicking up their heels. Damn, there’s nothing quite like a country show and this one was going to be a good one.
It’s clear that the duo have great chemistry, each one having their own strengths that make Muscadine Bloodline a musical juggernaut. Muncaster had a reserved presence on the stage, mostly standing behind his microphone as his vocals resonated throughout the venue. In sharp contrast, Stanton was all over the stage, posing with his guitar, smiling, laughing, and keeping the party going. I guess even in musical relationships, opposites attract because while the two seemed very different, together they are a musical juggernaut whose force seems unstoppable.
The guitars were hot and the room was even hotter as fans danced and partied to songs like “Pocketful of 90s Country” which took the energy level to new heights. During an extended version of “Me On You,” the members of the band were introduced and it was then I found out that their bass guitarist was from right here in Charlotte. Of course, the crowd went even wilder when they found out. But there were also some more poignant moments of the show including an acoustic segment with both Charlie and Gary sitting on stools for a few songs which provided a very intimate feel to a venue that was packed to the hilt. They even brought a young fan onstage for a song!
Musically, Muscadine Bloodline sounded amazing. From their backing band to the duo’s guitars and vocal harmonies, everything was on point. Of course, I was ecstatic that they played one of my favorites, “Porch Swing Angel” which was amazing and beautifully done. But the show wasn’t over yet. The duo would come back for a two-song encore for a set that lasted about an hour and a half, a real treat for a club show where most headliners perform for only about an hour.
I’ve got to say, Muscadine Bloodline was impressive in every way. This is a show you don’t want to miss. Go with your buddies or girlfriends or treat your honey to a great date night. Grab your tickets now because dates are selling out faster than you can chug a beer!
