Love Songs and Ginger Wiggles with JP Saxe
Singer Enchants Fans on A Grey Area World Tour
When I think of Canada, a few things always come to mind, singing the Canadian national anthem at hockey games, maple leaf-shaped candy, poutine, and Tim Hortons which shall forever be affectionately known to me as Timmy Hos. But now, thanks to one incredible night of music at The Underground I shall forever think of singer-songwriter JP Saxe.
JP is out bringing his latest album, A Grey Area, to music lovers around the world and his recent show in Charlotte was definitely one for the books. The stage was set up with a very cool living room aesthetic complete with floor lamps scattered about the stage. At the far left of the stage, sat a piano, lovingly decorated in an array of colors and geometrics which matched Saxe’s electric guitar. The lights were a dim wash of blue as JP hit the stage with his backing band in tow.
Saxe was decked out in a bluish-grey suit jacket and matching pants as he led off the evening with “Someone Else’s Home.” The song has a definite underlying vibe and Saxe is giving us all the feels from the very first note. His vocals are outstanding with a range from soaring to almost spoken word and everything in between. No matter the style, JP killed it. Not only did his voice amaze us, but he is just as gifted when picking up a guitar. Behind the piano is where Saxe really let us have it. The emotional intensity as he took us through “When You Think of Me,” nearly took my breath away. With gorgeous white lighting shining down upon him, he was a vision for both eyes and ears.
The night was full of magical moments and love. Whether it’s love songs, breakup songs, or just love for his fans, JP Saxe can not be denied. He gave us everything he had from dancing around doing “ginger wiggles” to grabbing his microphone and losing himself in the moment and even awkwardly tripping and knocking over some plants that donned the stage. He was vulnerable and real and because of it, the audience was able to connect with him on an entirely different level.
The fans were singing and dancing, clapping and laughing, and sobbing as they held friends and lovers close. It was indeed a magical night of music and memories for all. The tour is continuing overseas right now but we are hoping upon hope that JP Saxe returns to the US for another run. If he does, I wouldn’t miss it for the world, and neither should you.
Opening the show was singer-songwriter Justin Nozuka. With his guitar in hand, Justin quickly made us feel at home with his amazing songs and dreamy vocals. His latest single “Lay Down” featuring Amaal Nuux is out now, go check it out!
