Keith & Kristyn Getty An Irish Christmas
A Tradition Comes Alive at Ovens Auditorium
Grammy-nominated artists Keith and Kristyn Getty are bringing their music and their message live across the US with their current tour. The world-renowned hymn writers made a stop in Charlotte at Ovens Auditorium for Keith and Kristyn Getty’s An Irish Christmas and it was a night to remember.
The show combines the beauty of music with the message of the Christmas story, creating an evening that is magical in every way. Through The Getty Music Organization, the Gettys create gorgeous hymns for the modern church. It is a passion project with collaborations across the globe and Charlotte area music fans were lucky enough to catch a little of what Getty Music is all about live and in person.
The concert was broken into two halves with a short intermission between each. Exquisite Christmas trees adorned the stage along with lights and wreaths to set the mood for the Christmas performance. Front and center of the stage was Keith’s piano surrounded on each side by a bevy of top-notch musicians that made the songs come alive.
With a combination of original hymns and traditional Christmas favorites, An Irish Christmas had a little of everything. Kristyn’s voice was in peak form as her vocals resonated across the venue accompanied by Keith on piano and the wonderful aforementioned group of musicians.
Keith got the crowd on their feet as the venue lights came on and led us through a sing-along of seasonal songs “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful” to end the first half of the show, giving us far too much credit for our harmonies and vocal skills.
As the second half of the show began, the lighting would change in glorious sweeps of colors as the lyrics to the songs appeared on a screen at the rear of the stage. In a true testament to the Getty’s songwriting skills, their hymns melded perfectly along with all our favorite Christmas carols, most notably a stellar performance of their new song “Christus Victor (Amen).”
Kristyn introduced various lessons throughout the second half of the show which were verses from the Bible telling the story of Christmas from beginning to end followed by heavenly music after each lesson.
At various times, the Gettys spoke about their musical journey engaging the audience with stories of hope and introducing us to an organization known as The Voice of the Martyrs which centers around praying for persecuted Christians around the world.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the evening aside from wonderful music but An Irish Christmas far exceeded my expectations in every way. Be sure and catch the performance when it makes a stop in your area. The tour runs through mid-December finishing up in the US with a performance at NYC’s Carnegie Hall before the Gettys return home to Belfast for two sold-out shows to finish out the year.

An Irish Christmas Blessing
By Keith & Kristyn Getty
“Now may the fragrance of His peace
Soar through your heart like the dove released
Hide in His wings oh weary, distant soul
He’ll guide your spirit home
And may His love poured from on high
Flow to the depths of your deepest sigh
Oh come and drink from the only living stream
And on His shoulder lean
And may the hope that will not deceive
Through every pain bring eternal ease
There is no night that can steal the promises
His coming brings to us
So may His joy rush over you
Delight in the path He has called you to
May all your steps walk in Heaven’s endless light
Beyond this Christmas night (Make your sole purpose Christ) “
