Rising Star Jake Kohn Sits Fireside and Shares Stories of His Musical Beginnings

In July of 2022, I stopped in at a local bar that was hosting an acoustic cafe event. You’ll usually catch me at local metal shows, but I am a huge fan of acoustic sets, so this was a treat for me.

After a few artists take the stage and jam out, my attention is piqued when I notice a young boy plop down on the barstool in front of the microphone and nestle an acoustic guitar into his lap.

The second Jake started to sing, the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. Was I hearing a backtrack? Was this a prank? Did his dad write this song? That voice from that kid just doesn’t match, but it was real. It was then I knew that I needed to get a hold of Jake and chat with him about where he got started. I needed to know more about this kid, and I knew other listeners would be dying to know more too.

Jake’s Chromebook in the fourth grade had a desktop background image of the Million Dollar Quartet. He listens to 50’s rock and roll and writes songs in Spanish class. Not your typical fourth grader that’s for sure, and it’s said by many today that Jake is an old soul purely based on his raspy vocals.

Fans from around the world are wanting to see him live (I’ve seen people from Germany to the Philippines in his social media comments asking when he was coming to play), and that’s truly an incredible accomplishment for a 15-year-old.

Jake has a small east coast tour planned for May and promises that we’ll have music of his available for our listening pleasure on streaming platforms sooner rather than later.
