Interview: Stephen Sanchez Celebrates ‘Angel Face (Club Deluxe)’ and What To Expect From His Current Tour

‘Angel Face (Club Deluxe)’ available now on all platforms

Currently on tour Live From: The Connie Co Show, Stephen Sanchez is teleporting fans back in time with his live shows. Providing a sound of nostalgia and a feeling of energy through the conceptual storytelling of The Troubadour Sanchez and Evangeline, it allows fans an experience that immerses you in the live performance magic of the late 1950’s.

This tour celebrates his latest album ‘Angel Face’ and its recently released ‘Angel Face (Club Deluxe)’ version, which we had the opportunity to sit down and connect with Sanchez on. Of course, with a deluxe album, we were curious where the additional songs came from and with the unique storytelling present in Angel Face, when did additional tracks come to life.

Shutter 16 / Derek: When did the additional tracks that appear on the Club Deluxe version of Angel Face come to life? Were any a part of the original story between Troubadour Sanchez and Evangeline?”

Stephen Sanchez: “Some of them predated the record, which is crazy.” Some of the songs were written way before – pretty much everything was written right in the middle of everything there was no real songwriting after it was done. I think we just wanted to lay the foundations of the record out first with the first thirteen songs. We had some of them and they just didn’t make it contextually at the time. I think what it was, some of these songs were written after the songs that made it on the record were written and we had already told the story and liked how the story was being told through that song. Although these newer songs told those stories the same too, we didn’t want to have to pick and choose so we just chose to put them on later. Crazy to think about. Some of them just took a long time to finagle and get right and everything, I think that timing is everything. I mean, we added songs last minute even on the original lineup. I guess it just worked out the way it did.

While they may not have been on the original record, we’re certainly glad the additional tracks have made their way to the world now through the Angel Face (Club Deluxe) record. You can even look forward to hearing some of the new tracks as Sanchez tours across the US from now through October.

If you happened to catch one of his sold out shows last year in D.C. you may recall that Troubadour Sanchez and his band were ghost performing for clubs across the world following the events of Angel Face, but in this brand new tour you’ll experience Troubador Sanchez and The Moon Crest in their hay-day prior to the events of the album, as they perform in your city live from The Connie Co Show. It’s a show that’s expected to be very high in demand, afterall when has time travel ever been cheap, so make sure to get your tickets for your city before they’re all gone (if they aren’t already).
