Goth Babe at The Anthem DC
Sails through stellar set last night
As a longtime follower of Goth Babe‘s earlier work, I approached their performance at The Anthem with tempered expectations, favoring their older catalog over their most recent. However, the live performance exceeded expectations, seamlessly blending tracks from across their discography.
The production was especially impressive, with a top-tier stage design that perfectly complemented the music and overall experience. Hearing standout tracks like “Moments / Tides” live was an immediate highlight, demonstrating the band’s ability to elevate both their early and more recent songs in a live setting making me feel right at home.
The inflatable rafts sent into the crowd around the fourth song built a strong connection between the band and the fans, while the immersive light-show and lasers enhanced the experience.
Goth Babe kept the crowd on their toes with a series of giveaways throughout the night, adding a playful twist to the show. They handed out signed merchandise, including a keyboard, and even gave away the previously mentioned inflatable rafts to the fans who cheered the loudest.
One of the most memorable moments was a surprise gender reveal mid-set, which had the entire audience laughing. These personal touches and spontaneous interactions made the night feel even more special, showing how much they value their fans and the sense of community they’ve built.
In terms of the actual band and how it sounded, the overall musicianship was striking, with each member bringing the tracks to life in a way that elevated the studio versions. The fuller sound of live instruments gave the music a new richness that resonated throughout the venue.
Goth Babe’s stage presence was magnetic, and the crowd’s enthusiasm matched every beat, creating a symbiotic energy between the band and the audience. It’s clear they’ve mastered the balance between engaging the fans and delivering a polished, unforgettable performance.
Closing with classics and some of my favorites, “Canary Islands” and “Weekend Friend,” the performance was unforgettable. If you get the chance, the 2024 Goth Babe tour is a must-see this year even if you don’t consider yourself a die-hard fan.
The Aces
The Aces, an American alternative pop band from Provo, Utah, opened the night with an impressive set, marking their first time sharing the stage with Goth Babe.
Composed of guitarist Katie Henderson, bassist McKenna Petty, and sisters Alisa and Cristal Ramirez, the band delivered a polished performance that resonated with the crowd.
While their sound shares some similarities with Goth Babe’s atmospheric vibe, The Aces leaned more into an old-school band aesthetic, relying on live instrumentation rather than electronic elements.
Lead singer Cristal Ramirez stood out with her dynamic stage presence and powerful vocals, setting an energetic tone for the night.
The full band setup added depth to their performance, creating a sound that was both cohesive and engaging.
