ZWB is “Up and Running” in 2023
Rock fans gather around and pay attention to Zach Waters Band if you aren’t already. They describe themselves as angsty rock and roll that’s reminiscent of the classics, which is totally spot on. My parents were ’70s babies so naturally, I grew up on good ol’ fashioned rock & roll and ZWB takes me right back to a hot summer day, outside with my stepdad while he works on his step side Chevy truck. It’s so dope to see dudes like ZWB keeping this genre alive and kicking.
This Sacramento-based trio is already flying high this year. They just released their debut album, Up and Running, an 8-track hard and fast rock masterpiece with an authentic and raw party rock feel. I recently sat down to chat with the man who started it all, the one and only, Zach Waters.
He shares that the recording process for “Up and Running” was surreal; it was the band’s first time working with a major producer. That producer is Michael Rosen, who has worked with some of the biggest names in rock. Eddie Money, Journey, and Santana to name a few. There were also several guest artists who assisted in making the record, such as Jim Bogois of The Counting Crows and Michael Urbano from Smash Mouth. Does that help paint you a picture of how awesome this album is?
ZWB is cooking up a tour for this year and they want to break out of the west coast where they’ve mainly played and go national. So what can you expect at a live show from these guys? “When I’m on the stage, that’s where I feel most free. No shackles, nothing is holding me down. Being able to put on a show and see that energy come out of other people too is actual bliss”, says Zach. So, energy. Up in your face, electric, breaking the mundane energy. This band wants to get up in your grill and light a fire inside you, they want to give you an experience you’ll reminisce on for days to come.
Zach teases that even though they’ve just dropped their new record literally just days ago, you can expect a new release sometime before fall. (Zach Waters Band is putting in WORK.)
