Embracing The Efferusphere With Big Wild In Charlotte
The Efferusphere Is Here Tour Makes a Stop at the Fillmore
Producer and multi-instrumentalist Jackson Stell, known professionally as Big Wild, brought an evening of musical and visual delights to Charlotte as The Efferusphere Is Here Tour came to the Queen City. The musician is out on tour in support of his 2022 release The Efferusphere and Charlotte fans were pumped and ready for a one-of-a-kind experience for the senses.
Opening the show were the pop stylings of Bay Ledges. Combining the best of guitar, expressive vocals, and interesting beats, Zach Hurd has taken his musical adventure to interesting new heights with his 2022 album Ritual. Accompanying Zach on the tour is drummer Kyle Kelly-Yahner to further round out the sound.
Bay Ledges’ sound is best described as super-chill electronic pop, but it really is so much more. Hurd’s vocals hit hard, bringing forth an emotional storm that you never saw coming from either Hurd or from yourself. His songs are captivating let allow you the freedom for a personal experience, left open to interpretation. “Float” will let you do just that as you can drift into another place and time, if only for a moment. If you’re heading out to catch the tour, be sure and get there early because Bay Ledges is not to be missed.
After a short break, it was time for the main event of the evening, and the crowd was definitely fired up and ready to go. The lights went down and it was time to be awakened. There was an instant feeling of peace and calmness as we all entered The Effuresphere with Big Wild. The music alone would have been an amazing experience but combined with the visual imagery and light show, it was unbelievable. The energy was on and people were dancing, swaying, or just vibing in their own little world within the venue.
The visual display was breathtaking with a “curtain” of lights at the rear of the stage for a low-key feel or all-out washes of spectacular color spending on the feel of the song. At times, the stage would be dark with the sole beams of light focusing on Big Wild, whether he was situated behind the keyboard or sitting behind the drum kit.
Speaking of keyboards and drum kits, Big Wild is a highly skilled and talented multi-instrumentalist. He was glorious on the keys as well as on the drums and even threw a cowbell and tambourine into the mix during the evening. As the setlist varied between songs from The Efferusphere and songs from Superdream, we were taken on a journey through our musical imaginations.
I mentioned Big Wild’s talent as a musician but let’s not forget he is an outstanding singer as well and his vocals soared over the Fillmore filling the venue with a passion unmatched. Along with his musicianship and composing skills, Big Wild was a phenomenal showman, dancing, vibing, and getting the crowd involved in the show.
The performance was top-notch in every way from the songs to the lighting to the crowd interaction and the skilled musicians accompanying him. Every aspect of the show seemed perfectly in sync which doesn’t surprise me as Big Wild is a top-notch producer, yet it was still spontaneous enough to be carefree and in the moment. What an enjoyable night!
