Day 1: Let’s Go Music Festival

Recap

Day One of Maryland’s Let’s Go Music Fest has come and gone.  It was a homecoming of sorts, as Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack, and, Dashboard Confessional transported the millennials in the crowd back to high school.

The three bands reminisced about their run-ins over the years as they all took the stage throughout the night.  And Dashboard’s Chris Carrabba informed the crowd that ‘Vindicated’, written for Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2, celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday… last night (let that sink in).

As the Friday workday ended, The Anne Arundel Fairground started to fill in for back-to-back to back performances between the two festival stages.  The day started with Battle of the Bands winner Gabe Woodrow, who had plenty of support in the audience.  “Take your shirt off,” chants got louder and louder until Gabe acknowledged the familiar faces in the crowd with a laugh.  He ended his set with a familiar “Unraveling” before joining the crowd for the rest of the day.

Pop punk Games We Play and People R Ugly took to the second stage and kept the crowd going throughout the night, each providing some comic relief to the crowd.   People R Ugly’s Guitarist Julian Del Grosso was given a moment to shine and perform ‘4skin’ a song about his late-in-life circumcision, borrowing a hook from Plain White T’s 1,2,3,4 in the process.

Games We Play’s Emmyn Calleiro brought his shy brother to the stage (who he made learn an instrument) and allowed him play bass for a song.  He followed by explaining how he’s looking for his first kiss.  We still aren’t sure how much truth is in the story but the crowd was loving it.

A highlight of the night was the packed festival screaming at the top of their lungs as Dashboard Confessional took the stage, covering much of his well known catalog, including “Screaming Infidelities”, “Again I Go Unnoticed”, “Vindicated”, and capping his set off with “Hand’s Down.”
