Crushing Chaos with The Callous Daoboys
Hangar 1819 Brings the Heavy to Greensboro
What sort of things do you get into on a weeknight? Well, if you are a fan of music, a weeknight full of metal bands in Greensboro NC is actually pretty common nowadays. Thanks to the crew at Hangar 1819 and Crank it Loud Booking, music from locals and of course touring bands is a much more consistent option in the Gate City both at Hangar 1819 and at venues all across the city. This night found math/metal-core band The Callous Daoboys with Hazing Over rolling into town and with a few local openers they brought the noise on the Wild Hogs Tour.
Opening the evening three local acts Rotting In Dirt, This Is Your God, and Dull Mourning were perfect sonic compliments to the headliners of the evening. Rotting in Dirt began the evening with a brutally heavy and chaotic set.
Followed up by This is Your God, the heaviness continued but the evening turned to a more hardcore sound while still quite brutal in heaviness.
Dull Mourning kept the hard-core sound progressing through the evening although a little less on the heavy and more on the groove. These three bands each unique in their sound are a really strong representation of the quality of heavy music alive and well here in the local scene and it was a super treat to see their fans in attendance and for the exposure to them myself as well.
Speaking of new to me, Hazing Over was a band that I had no previous knowledge of and it is always amazing to hear a band for the first time that really catches your ear and Hazing Over did just that. It was a pretty short set but in that short amount of time, they delivered on a crushing set that mixed in growling vocals and monster riffs with a back and forth from riff to riff with interesting sonic effects sprinkled in. Their next EP Tunnel Vision is set for release on July 7th of this year. After taking the time to check out their first EP and an earlier version of the band, their growth is evident and I will be looking forward to what they have in store next.
In music as with other aspects of my life, I like a little or sometimes a lot of chaos. Chaos is a word you may often see used in a description of the sound that The Callous Daoboys create, but to be honest it is a little bit of a disservice as their sound goes so much deeper.
A heartfelt assault on your ears, what The Callous Doaboys have created has culminated in their most recent release Celebrity Therapist, and is brought to life on stage. Beyond their sound, it also seems that the band is enjoying themselves. This night at Hangar 1819 had a very enthusiastic crowd and the band gave the enthusiasm right back.
With super high energy across the board from the band, the pace of their set was frantic and from song to song the energy stayed at 100%. Each member of the band showed a real love for performing not just for us but also with each other. Honestly, it was a good vibe and the scene of the whole night was a good vibe with camaraderie throughout the venue. A band that is really hitting their stride The Callous Daoboys are a fun act to catch live and with a slew of dates here in the States left before a European tour I cannot encourage you enough to get out and catch them live, especially if you are a fan of their music.
