Christmas with CeCe Winans in Charlotte

Celebrating The Season With A Gospel Legend

Legendary Gospel singer CeCe Winans is on the road bringing a special holiday show to fans across the country in support of her latest album Joyful, Joyful: A Christmas Album. The tour dubbed Christmas with CeCe Winans recently made its way to Queen City, where it stopped at Charlotte’s Ovens Auditorium for a night of worship and Christmas magic.

Fans packed into the sold-out theater for a one-of-a-kind experience that brought smiles and tears of joy from those lucky enough to attend. The stage was set simply but beautifully with lit Christmas wreaths and lighted garland to bring a festive atmosphere. Winans’ band was dimly lit playing almost in the dark as CeCe was introduced kicking things off with “Angels We Have Heard On High.” Dressed in a gorgeous, sequined green gown, Winans was captivating both visually and of course, vocally as her tremendous voice soared throughout the auditorium giving me goosebumps from the start.

The performance was split into two halves with a brief intermission between them. The night was unique as we were treated to special guests at different points throughout the sets. American Idol alumni Roman Collins brought his powerful voice to sing a duet with CeCe as well as a solo number. His vocals were second to none and I heard the man next to me gasp in approval. Collins also shared stories and testimonies making his time on stage very personal and relatable.

CeCe of course comes from an extremely talented family of singers and for this run of shows she brought her sister Debbie Winans who blessed us with a beautiful live version of “Thankful” as well as some stories of her own.

During the intermission, representatives from Compassion International came out to tell us a little about their organization and how we could possibly change the life of a child through their sponsorship program. This is always a welcome addition to the evening and gives those who were able to, an opportunity to walk the walk and spread the love of Christ to someone in need.

After the break, Winans came out yet again for another set of incredibly moving music. Her backing band sounded amazing and when Winans sings, you not only hear the music, you feel it. It’s just not possible not to get emotional at a CeCe Winans show and this night was no exception as the tears sprung from my eyes during my favorite holiday song of all time, “O Holy Night.”

Looking like an angel in her white gown, Winans led the crowd through sing-along worship with “Goodness of God” as hands were raised in appreciation of God and hearts moved with the meaning of the season.

A CeCe Winans concert is always a special time of music, sharing, and worship, but combined with the Christmas season and seasonal classics, it was truly spectacular. The remaining dates of her Christmas tour are sold-out but there’s still time to catch her after the holidays as Winans embarks on More Than This Tour starting in mid-February. Merry Christmas Everyone!
