Cannon Hill drops new single “F.Y.B.H”, An Aggressive “F” You
Oh, Cannon Hill. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a bit of a soft spot for this 4 piece rock group from my neck of the woods. This band was my introduction to live music photography, and no, I don’t just keep up with them because they’re my pals. Their music is genuinely outstanding, and “F.Y.B.H.
” is no exception. The abbreviation expanded is “fuck your broken heart”, and that’s precisely the vibe you’ll hear from this song.
“Fuck Your Broken Heart” was brought to life from a guitar riff that guitarist Michael penned while he was heavily intoxicated. Before it was known as “F.Y.B.H”, it was titled “Generation Me” and even had a whole different set of lyrics. This is a song I’ve heard more times than I can count during live shows, but I’m granted early access to listen to the newly announced single.
The song begins with a moody guitar intro from Michael, paired with a bouncy bass line played by Jeff. Takoda starts out a little tame with the drums, I hear some cymbals and kick drum peeking through right before the chorus kicks off. Trent touts his velvety, yet feisty vocals that really pop off along with the drums when the chorus hits.
“You ripped me in two, why can’t you see what you’re doin? I don’t know where to start, fuck your broken heart.”
There’s a throaty scream followed by Michael going absolutely shred mode with a guitar solo. “F.Y.B.H” moves to the top of my Cannon Hill playlist. This jam is the perfect concoction of anguish and up yours. If you’re coping with being betrayed and need a song to temper the sting of bitterness, “F.Y.B.H” is the one.
