BoyWithUke Reveals All In New Album and Tour
Lucid Dreams Introduces You To The Artist Behind The Mask
While you may not know his real face, chances are you recognize his masked persona. BoyWithUke has grown with extreme speed and popularity over the last year thanks to social media and the public’s intrigue of the unknown.
Not many artists today have the ability to sell out shows at iconic venues and stand outside as the line grows without being recognized, but for this artist that’s exactly what he’s able to do.
In my opinion it’s a genius move as you truly have the ability to switch off the fame and not allow it to impede or affect your personal life. BoyWithUke recently told Billboard that the mask allows him to “be himself without fear of judgment from others”. This is an unfortunate and sad reality of the cost of fame and popularity in today’s society. It truly allows the focus to be on the music and not the person behind it.
He’s set out on a tour to showcase and celebrate that music while also growing a focus around his just released album ‘Lucid Dreams’ which dropped on October 6th.
On the night we joined him, like many other stops on his tour, we were met with a sold out venue of excited fans.
As we arrived at the iconic 9:30 Club we were met with one of the longest lines we’ve ever seen as it wrapped around the corner and back over 2 blocks, filled with fans already wearing merch of the iconic look of BoyWithUke.
Once inside fans of all ages lined the barricade with signs, masks, drawing and random objects in hopes of getting a signature.
As the show began, fans erupted with excitement as BoyWithUke appeared on the stage to the sounds of “Rockstar” while creating an exciting and fun filled vibe within the space. Shortly after, he took a moment to say hello to the crowd and welcome them to the show.
He also revealed a little bit of the secrecy that comes with performing in a mask. Such as, the mic he holds in his hand does nothing as there’s actually a microphone built into his mask. This allows him to truly play the ukulele and move around the stage while singing.
As his set continued he hit us with some songs both old and new. Songs like “Two Moons”, “Understand” and “Trauma”.
Paired with visual graphics and an energy seemingly undeterred by a recent back injury he brought a show that was a visual spectacle for all and very clearly pleasing for everyone bearing witness.
Throughout his new album he offers the most raw and vulnerable insight into his personal life and journey to date.
While he’s only been known for his visual identity upheld by the mask, it’s clear that this album allowed him to tap into himself and truly find acceptance with who he is.
That has led him to very recently make the decision to remove the mask for the first time and officially introduce the world to… Charley.
