All Treats, No Tricks with Jessie Murph As She Celebrates Halloween

Jessie Murph

“Who is this artist?” may be your first thought from the moment you hear the first note from Jessie Murph. She immediately demands your attention with ethereal vocals and pop mixed moody beats and ballads. She’s just recently burst onto the music scene, and in a huge and fast way as success on TikTok and YouTube led to her first record deal in 2021.

At just 19 years old her music taps into deep feelings and deep subjects proving she’s a force to be reckoned with as her career grows. If it’s any indication how much impact she’s having, in just over a year she’s gone from a DC venue with a 300 capacity to two back to back sold out nights at DC’s iconic 9:30 Club.

We joined Jessie on one of the best nights for a concert, Halloween! As you may expect not only did some fans show up in their Halloween best, but so did Jessie and her band.

While her bandmates appeared on stage covered in blood and blood splatters, she walked on stage to chants of excitement from the crowd while dressed as Uma Thurman’s character Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction. As she took her place center stage and the lights illuminated behind her the crowd continued to fill the room with cheers and excitement as the tour’s namesake song began with “Cowboys and Angels”.

From there we would travel through almost all of her debut album ‘drowning’ that was released earlier this year as songs like “I Would’ve” made us feel a pain so good. Much like the deep feelings that run alongside every word within “What Happened to Ryan”. The latter made even more somber with a projected empty chair in the background.

As the evening continued, Murph graced us with not only her beautiful existing songs but also a few unreleased ones as well. Songs like “Wildflowers and Wine” shined bright as she and her brother (on guitar) sat down center stage and she sang about love deserved and will surely become a hit in the country community once released.

Another upcoming song that will immediately climb the charts is one by the name of “Dirty” as it showcases Murph’s vocals and powerful vulnerability as an artist.

In addition to new and unreleased songs the evening brought treats of cover songs such as Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” and Adele’s “Someone Like You”.

Before the evening came to a close she welcomed out fellow tour mate Henry Verus to accompany her on one of her newer singles “Texas” which on the recorded track finds her alongside Maren Morris.

She then brought the evening to an end with some more of her latest collaborations.

Such as “Wild Ones” which features Jelly Roll and is also the song that just the night before introduced her to the world in her television debut as she performed alongside him on Jimmy Kimmel Live. For her final song though, she brought it back to where it all began and her debut single of “Upgrade”

Henry Verus

Opening for Jessie on this evening in DC, and throughout the US tour was Chicago native Henry Verus. With a sound of R&B and pop blends he also found success as a musician in 2021 with his debut single “Your Guilty Pleasure”.

Donning a blood stained shirt he introduced himself to DC and took us on his musical journey, which included his latest single released just a few days before with “Avoid It”.

From his newest song, to covers such as Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey”, his set was full of vibes and traces of rising stardom.
