HOT HALF DOZEN 75

75 songs, albums submitted this week

Sylvia, single by TORRES and Baker. Defiant. Outlaw. Earworm. This duo infuses country-style soft rock with messages of radical empathy and second and third chances in an addictive sound.  Love the twangy guitars.  Stream on Spotify and major platforms

This Cat’s in the Doghouse, single by Patricia Vonne. The queen of Austin roots rock with a south-of-the-border flavor brings out another banger.  The only thing missing from this song is her trademark castanets (check out her 2005 album Guitars and Castanets). Its blues rock that grabs your gut, its country rock that tells a story.  Its everything you want to listen to.  Stream on Spotify and major platforms.

Baby Blue, single by Willow Avalon. From the Southern Belle Raising Hell album. Willow brings a country style to a beautiful song she wrote together with Tofer Brown.  It sounds like down to earth country, but the production is so sophisticated that it is both a two-stepper and a carry you away song.  Love it. Stream on major platforms.

Woke Up and Smelled the Coffee, single by Tommy Castro and the Painkillers. Just solid high powered rocking roots music with blues and R&B thrown in.  If you like Elvin Bishop, Eric Clapton, or Mike Bloomfield you will love Tommy Castro (and he is great fun live!) Stream on major platforms.

Goliath, single by Jesse Reyez.  I love Jesse Reyez’s voice. Born in Canada of Columbian parents, she effortlessly blends the two cultures in her music. She burst onto the music scene in 2016 with her acclaimed debut single “Figures,” Since then, she has released a string of hits and has collaborated with likes of Eminem, Calvin Harris, and Beyoncé. This song showcases her voice full of love, urgency, power and softness, truly amazing.  Stream on all major platforms.

Estrella Fugaz, single by Delilah. A fast-rising Mexican songstress has made a name for herself in the corridos tumbados subgenre (a fusion style also known as trap corridos). She was the first female singer to join Natanael Cano’s record label, Los CT, and released her debut single “Amor Perdido” under the label earlier this year.  This song is sweet and hypnotic, embodying the Mexican regional sound but bringing modern elements in that make it stand out.  Spanish.  Stream on Spotify.

The potential within all things is a mystery that fascinates me endlessly. A tiny seed already contains within it the entire blueprint of a towering tree, waiting for the right moment to emerge. Does the seed know what it will become? Do we? Or are we all simply waiting for the right conditions to awaken into what we have always been destined to be?

Time is often called the soul of motion, the great measure of change, but what if it is merely an illusion? What if we are not moving forward but simply circling the same points, like the smoke from a burning fire, curling back onto itself, repeating patterns we fail to recognize? Maybe the past and future are just two sides of the same moment, and all we ever have is now.

Friendship, some say, is a single soul residing in two bodies, but why limit it to two? What if friendship is more like a great, endless web, where each connection strengthens the whole? Maybe we are not separate beings at all, but parts of one vast consciousness, reaching out through the illusion of individuality to recognize itself in another.

Nice read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he just bought me lunch as I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!

The essence of existence is like smoke, always shifting, always changing, yet somehow always present. It moves with the wind of thought, expanding and contracting, never quite settling but never truly disappearing. Perhaps to exist is simply to flow, to let oneself be carried by the great current of being without resistance.

I’m not sure why but this blog is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
