Lindsey Stirling Makes Winter Come Alive In Charlotte
The Snow Waltz Tour At Ovens Auditorium
Any time the amazing Lindsey Stirling comes to town, it is a reason to celebrate. Not only is she a virtuoso on the violin, but Stirling is also an amazing dancer, and singer, and is capable of performing out-of-this-world acrobatic feats all without missing a single note. Lindsey recently checked into the Queen City as part of her annual Snow Waltz Tour bringing joy to thousands of fans at Ovens Auditorium.
The audience was rife with excitement and anticipation from little girls in fancy dresses to older couples and everyone in between. There was no opening act on this tour so when the venue lights went down, we all oohed and aahed. The stage was set to resemble a village of sorts, the kind you would expect in a holiday movie or themed event as Stirling kicked off a night full of all the wonder and magic that music can bring to life.
The show had a little bit of everything with dancers accompanying Stirling on stage for Christmas pop classics “Sleigh Ride” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” There were even a few comical moments as her own Christmas tree danced, joked, and frolicked along beside her.
Watching Stirling on stage is a truly wondrous experience. She is a vision to behold as she breathtakingly plays her custom Yamaha violin, dancing about with the skill and poise of a world-class dancer. There’s also a bit of a Broadway show feel to this tour with costume changes and scenery changes throughout the evening.
Stirling and her accompanying cast of dancers bring it all out with jaw-dropping acrobatic acts as they swing from huge circles and move in unison. It seems almost impossible that she can do all that and play the violin at the same time and yet she does it seemingly with ease.
In between songs, Stirling shares some heart-warming stories about the loss of a loved one, her faith, and the holiday season. She is completely relatable and genuine in those moments and I think a few tears may have been shed.
Stirling’s own songs “Warmer in Winter” and “Snow Waltz” fit beautifully in with traditional carols “Angels We Have Heard On High” and “ Carol of the Bells.” The best part of the show came toward the end with “Magic” before an encore of “I Wonder as I Wander” as Stirling is once again raised to the rafters portraying angel wings behind her.
What a show! If you ever get the chance to attend one of her performances, it is a must-see event suitable for the whole family. The Snow Waltz Tour has come to an end but we hope she does it all over again next year. Your next chance to catch Lindsey will be this May on the Master of Tides Cruise! No summer tour dates have been announced yet, but stay tuned for future updates.
