24kGoldn Brings the Heat to the Sinclair
With high energy and viral hits, this show put Boston “in the mood.”
24kGoldn, born Golden Landis Von Jones on November 13, 2000, in San Francisco, California, has rapidly ascended the ranks of the music industry with his distinctive blend of rap, pop, and rock elements. Known for his infectious melodies and genre-blurring sound, 24kGoldn’s music reflects a modern versatility that appeals to a broad audience. He first gained significant attention with his breakout single “Valentino” in 2019, which showcased his knack for catchy hooks and energetic delivery. However, it was his 2020 hit “Mood,” featuring Iann Dior, that truly catapulted him into mainstream success. The track’s upbeat, feel-good vibe resonated worldwide, topping charts and dominating social media sites like TikTok.
Boston marked the 12th stop on 24kGoldn’s Growing Pains Tour, titled the same as his most recent album, “Growing Pains”, which was released in March of 2024. First to perform at the Sinclair, an intimate standing-room venue in Harvard Square, was artist and musician Cliff Notez. Hailing from Dorchester, MA, the young creative prides himself in developing art, music, films, and political organization that is rooted in hip-hop and his experience as a Black man. He took the stage with a beaming smile, immediately warming up the sparse crowd at the venue with his warm presence and soothing music. Casually chatting with the audience and starting call-and-response chants, it was clear that Cliff Notez enjoyed the stage. Blending R&B melodies and powerful lyricism, the singer and his guitarist made for a pleasant introduction to the party that was about to get started.
As night drew near and the crowd began to fill in, at last, 24kGoldn blasted on the stage, announcing his presence as the main event with his contagious energy. Cellphone lights shot into the air, bouncing around to the beat of his viral hit, “Valentino”, as the musician hopped back and forth across the stage. The once sparse crowd packed tightly to the front of the venue, every fan inching to get as close as possible to the musician. Jumping between hard-hitting hip-hop, emotional ballads, and popular throwbacks, 24kGoldn showcased an impressive range of talent. Towards the middle of the night, he even stripped down his performance to just his vocals and guitar, explaining how he’d spent the past 6 months learning to play the instrument so that he could elevate his performance. Everyone in the building, from the parents of his young fans to the audio engineer at the back of the house was grooving to the music of 24kGoldn.
Some artists might shy at the sight of an undersold venue, but the opposite seemed to happen for 24kGoldn. His energy only dialed up throughout the first few tracks, engaging the audience and showing off his dance moves. Despite their low numbers, the crowd that showed up to the Sinclair that night ultimately proved their loyalty to the musician, loudly singing along to all of his songs, even those that were just recently released. 24kGoldn even remarked on this, expressing how grateful he was that the fans were supporting his new project. His gratitude was clear throughout the night, and he showcased an endearing personality in between songs, speaking on his love for Boston and his fans. He even ended the night with a meet and greet, open to anyone willing to wait in the long line to get their merchandise signed or their photo taken, further proving the level to which he cares about his fans.
24kGoldn demonstrated a unique ability to navigate different musical styles, bringing together diverse influences from hip-hop, pop-punk, and R&B. His standout trait, however, is his vibrant personality and charismatic stage presence that makes his live performances almost party-like– characterized by high energy and audience interaction. Beyond his music, 24kGoldn’s fashion sense and social media presence have solidified his status as a modern pop culture icon. His fashion-forward style often incorporates bold, eclectic choices that reflect his fearless approach to both music and life.
With a promising career ahead, 24kGoldn continues to climb upwards and push the boundaries of how to be a successful, gen-z musician, making him an artist to watch in today’s ever-evolving musical landscape. As he wraps up his Growing Pains tour, be sure to stream his newest project, out now:
