Somewhere Down The Road with the Josh Abbott Band in Charlotte

Band Brings a Little Bit of Texas to The Underground

Ever since the early days of the band in 2006 while Josh was attending Texas Tech University, the Josh Abbott Band has stayed true to its roots. Combining the best of both neotraditional and outlaw country, Josh Abbott Band brings us the very best of Texas. With world-class musicianship and top-notch songwriting, JAB’s songs speak to our hearts and souls. Indeed, they write music for the common man with real-life themes that are inherently relatable to our own.  For one night only, Charlotte area music lovers were able to experience a little Texas Country right here in the Queen City as the Josh Abbott Band filled The Underground with songs of love and life.

Out in support of their latest album Somewhere Down The Road, JAB hit the stage running and put on a performance that will not be forgotten. As the band made their way out onto the stage of The Underground, they quickly filled it up. There are a lot of members in JAB and the stage is small, but they made it work. This was a no-frills show as far as concerts typically go. They didn’t have any big production as far as lights or special effects. Instead, what you saw was what you got, and believe me that was all they needed.

The focus was on the music and JAB sounded amazing. Abbott’s vocals were spot on as they kicked things off with “Astronaut.” One thing that I love about JAB is its ability to take you to so many different places emotionally. They can have you pining for lost loves one moment and stomping your feet the next. Preston Wait was a standout on the fiddle. He plays with such feeling and passion that his instrument just pours out the sentiments of each and every song, a real powerhouse. In fact, every single member of JAB is a master of their craft, blending into a cohesive unit that melds into a whole with each and every note.

They say that everything is bigger and better in Texas. While that may not be true for everything, it definitely is when it comes to the Josh Abbott Band. This is one country show you don’t want to miss. Check them out when they head to a city near you and watch them bring a little Texas to your hometown.

Opening the show, was up-and-coming singer-songwriter Bradeon Barnhill. Also, from Texas, Barnhill’s Americana vibe was something special and I’m sure we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from Braedon in the not-so-distant future. Go check out his latest single “Call You Up” and listen to all that he has to offer.

Howdy… I’m a retired professor and song writer here in Wichita Falls. I have a demo of a song “Why’d We Have to Wait So Long for Lainey” at https://farm.fm/whyd-we-have-to-wait-so-long-for-lainey/ Would you have a listen and let me know what you think. If possbile post something about it? Or share it with your crew? Thanks, Alan PS: A link would be GREAT; I’m trying to rank on goggle for Lainey Wilson and well its slow… 🙂
