My personal calendar is a conglomerate of near every genre of music, festival, and comedy special that a decade ago I would not have dreamed would be my life. This release list is twinning.

To wrap up this week, we’ve got some much-anticipated arrivals that have us tapping our toes, crossing our arms, and screeching, “Finally!” We’re sure you can see which ones we think you should grab and which ones we think may deserve a pass (cough). Peace…Like A River was recorded during the same sessions as Heavy Load Blues at The Power Station New England with co-producer John Paterno (Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos) alongside Haynes. The albums, however, were created in different rooms, with no shared gear or instruments, keeping the two concurrent projects with their own unique identity and character. One distinguishing difference on Peace…Like A River is the presence of talented friends in important guest roles, including Billy F Gibbons, Billy Bob Thornton and Celisse as well as Ivan Neville and Ruthie Foster. Thematically, the new 12-song rock collection explores the seismic changes the world has gone through over the past few years. Genre-smashing alternative artist grandson announces his new album I Love You, I’m Trying out May 5th via Fueled By Ramen. Where his past work tackled political and social issues in nature, the new album turns the lens definitely inward resulting in a 12 track collection of grandson’s most personal and vulnerable songwriting to date.

“I’m painting the intimate portrait of myself I know how – covering themes of self harm, family trauma, the hidden side of life on the road, and so much more,” grandson shares. “This is the album that 16 year old me needed. This is the album I was scared to write and the album fans of mine deserve to hear. Above all this is the album where I face a big question: can I handle the changes life throws at me, and if this all that there is to life, can it be enough to be happy?”

New energetic single, “Drones” is out today. Pivoting from spoken lyrics to a frantic chorus vocal performance, the track is an industrial dance-punk anthem that revels in the bad feelings. Exploring new sonic heights, the track’s evolved production provides a perfect backdrop for weighty lyrics – “Tell me one good lie / so I can sleep at night / Hurt me one more time / I want to feel alive.”

“‘Drones’ is a twisting, spiraling journey through the lies we tell ourselves to get through the day when the hard truth may bury us,” the multi-platinum artist shares. “I wanted to pay homage to bands like Tool and System of a Down known for unpredictable time signatures but bring 808s and hip hop into it”

grandson creates sonic landscapes and writes songs to feel understood. After being labeled a “political artist” (which he is honored to be considered) he felt slightly boxed in by the title. The overwhelming pressure of writing a song to “change the world” and imposter syndrome had taken over, pushing to the brink of burnout. After 2020’s daring theatrical debut album, Death of an Optimist, the singer-songwriter wanted to create a project where he felt like he had “something to lose.” An album that featured honest conversations about his struggles that he was so desperately trying to overcome through songwriting in the first place. “I didn’t feel like I was bringing all of me to the table,” he says.

Cue, I Love You, I’m Trying which comes from a place of surrender – a surrender to control the narrative. It’s a deep dive into the psyche of a fragile, oft-emotionally unstable and yet wildly creative force. The result is a stunning, ambitious achievement, and one that peels back the layers of grandson’s public persona in ways he never could have imagined. A bold undertaking, the album was written with a sense of survival and urgency – the artist penned more than 40 songs, whittling them down to the essentials which appear on the 12 track collection.

FILTER RELEASE NEW SINGLE “FACE DOWN”

“Face Down” the latest song from platinum-selling alternative-industrial rock pioneers Filter, will be available digitally today via Golden Robot Records.

“Face Down” follows the release of “For the Beaten”, which was the first Filter track to be issued by Golden Robot in October 2022. Written by Filter founder Richard Patrick, “Face Down” is classic Filter – a tight song with loads going on, including some killer drum fills and a restrained vocal delivery that seems ready to explode at any given point as the song progresses. The track lets you know early on where it is headed and locks you in from the start without ever becoming predictable. It will appear on Filter’s upcoming album, which is expected to arrive in 2023.

“‘Face Down’ speaks to the hate and negativity plaguing the world today,” said Patrick. “I wrote it after being inundated with lies, deceptions, and pure vitriol I saw on social media. I’m pumped. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the full album.”

For the first time in their 30-year career, Filter will present California Screamin’ – a full concert global stream performed LIVE on location in Los Angeles. The LIVE performance will include special guests, classic songs Filter has not performed in over 25 years and the debut of brand-new material.

“I’ve been itching to do a live stream since things shut down a couple years ago but I got caught up in the studio working on our new album,” said Patrick. “When Scott [Donnell, CMO HITKOR] came to me and told me about HITKOR, and then invited me down to see Ministry do their thing, I was sold.”

This year marks the 30^th anniversary of the band’s birth. The celebration of Filter’s anniversary began in earnest late last year when Patrick was invited to join Nine Inch Nails for a special fan day Q&A at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The following night NIN mastermind Trent Reznor had Patrick and other former and current NIN band members join him for a special performance at the Blossom Center in Cleveland, OH, where the band was originally formed. The expanded NIN performed such staples as “Eraser,” “Wish,” “Sin,” “Gave Up,” “Head Like a Hole,” and a cover of Filter’s 1994 monster hit, “Hey Man Nice Shot.”

Filter also reissued their masterpiece “The Amalgamut,” this year through Craft Recordings which became available for the first time on vinyl.

Beginning in May, Filter will embark on a 6-month-long tour crisscrossing the United States and Canada before a planned trip overseas to play in Europe and Australia in 2024. Filter’s tour plans so far include headline shows, festival appearances and a place on the Freaks on Parade tour with Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, and Ministry.

May 5, 2023—“Buy My Round,” the newly written and recorded track from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, premieres today. The song appears on the band’s forthcoming EP, What If I, out on June 2 via Stax. The EP is their first body of work since the acclaimed 2021 album The Future. Listen to/share it HERE.

“‘Buy My Round’ is a song about trying to keep a friendship together with someone that keeps pulling away,” says Night Sweats bandmember Mark Shusterman. “It’s something that had been bouncing around in my head for a while, so I was excited when Nathaniel wanted to help me finish it for this recording. It was great to get to sing together on this one.”

Rateliff furthers, “Mark had been playing this one while we were writing for The Future but we never got a chance to dig into it. This is our first big collaboration on a song together and it turned out great.”

This past weekend, Rateliff performed at Willie Nelson’s star-studded 90^th Birthday Celebration at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. As part of the lauded two-day concert event, Rateliff contributed renditions of “A Song for You,” “City of New Orleans” and “I Can Get Off on You,” which was performed as a duet with Margo Price.

In addition, Rateliff and the band will hit the road this summer and fall for an extensive run of worldwide dates. The U.S. tour includes multiple shows at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Chicago’s The Salt Shed and Minneapolis’ Surly Brewing Festival Field as well as appearances at Brandi Carlile’s Mothership Weekend, Outlaw Music Festival with Willie Nelson & Family, Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival, Sea Hear Now Festival and more. The What If I EP features a selection of unreleased songs recorded during The Future sessions as well as the new track “Buy My Round.” All songs on the upcoming project were produced by Bradley Cook (Bon Iver, Kevin Morby, The War on Drugs) and R.M.B.—the production trio of Rateliff, Meese and James Barone (Beach House). In addition, the song “Slow Pace of Time” features Preservation Hall Jazz Band leader and clarinetist Charlie Gabriel.

In support of The Future, which was released to widespread acclaim, the group performed multiple times on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “CBS This Morning: Saturday” and “Austin City Limits.” In addition, Rateliff sat with Anthony Mason of “CBS Sunday Morning” to discuss the band’s rise to stardom.

Last December, Rateliff & The Night Sweats played their biggest show ever at Denver’s Ball Arena. The sold-out performance held special significance as it was their first ever arena show and featured a solo set from longtime friend and supporter Marcus Mumford and Hermanos Gutiérrez as well as a surprise sit-in from Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso.

The waves you hear in the intro are the actual waves we recorded from our Airbnb, whose backyard was the Pacific Ocean. It was the first song we wrote that was a real deviation from pop punk for this album. I’m proud to say we did that deviation justice. Tyler Posey is no stranger to the spotlight. His storied acting and music career spans over a decade starring in dozens of TV shows and movies including Teen Wolf and Truth or Dare, as well as being a member of multiple bands including PVMNTS and Five North.
