North Star Boys Captivate Fans In Charlotte
The Saturday Night Tour Stops At The Underground
The North Star Boys are not your typical musical act. The group rose to fame as content creators on just about every social media platform out there and have become full-fledged Tik-Tok stars. North Star Boys currently have over 5.5 million followers on the platform and their content typically gets hundreds of thousands and often millions of views.
NSB found success with the release of two singles in 2022, “Sunshine” and “you are my star” which led to the group recently offering up a 3-song EP entitled PANIC last month. The boys are currently out on tour promoting the new record and recently made a stop right here in the Queen City at The Underground Charlotte.
There were several different ticket options for the tour with some offering a VIP pre-show experience and also an after-show party and fans were already packed into the venue when I arrived. There wasn’t an opener listed for the Charlotte show but luckily for fans, Kodoku was in the house and ready to get things started. Up-and-comer Eric Yang, known as Kodoku, hails from the Charlotte area and had been opening shows for NSB on the tour. Since it was a hometown show, he brought his full band with him to play and round out the sonic experience for everyone who arrived early enough to catch his set.
His music is full of dreamy, pop melodies and he brought his best for the crowd. One lucky fan was invited to sit on the stage as Kodoku sang to her and serenaded her, an experience I’m sure she will never forget. His set featured his latest single “I Hope My Next Girl Looks Like You” as well as fan favorites “DOWN TO RIDE” and the hip-hop vibes of “Hennessy.” Beautiful lighting accompanied his performance and the fans were loving every minute of it. It was a great start to the evening and I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more from Kodoku in the future.
After a short break, it was finally time for North Star Boys to make an appearance. As the lights dimmed, the crowd went nuts and I’m pretty sure a few, young fans up front at the barricade were openly weeping tears of joy. For the first song, only Oliver Moy would take the stage, face covered in a black ski mask before the rest of the group would join, one by one as the evening progressed.
The show was full of fan interaction as Sebastian, Oliver, and Regie spent a lot of time at the barricade, high-fiving fans and taking selfies which made for many, many memorable moments. Regie’s shirtless appearance went over big with the mostly female crowd and the screaming and shrieking were non-stop from start to finish. The band even did a question-and-answer segment where audience members got to ask questions and the band answered live on stage. This part of the show got a little bit risque at some points which brought the excitement of the audience to a fever pitch.
Of course, this was a concert and the music did not disappoint. NSB songs are full of dreamlike vibes and plenty of melodic hooks. Their setlist featured all three songs from the PANIC EP- the title track as well as “MISERY” and “MIRACLE” as well as “SUNSHINE” and “you are my star.” My favorite song of the set was “MIRACLE” during which the fans lit up their cellphones and waved them back in forth in unison as NSB performed. It may have been a Monday night in Charlotte but the Saturday Night Tour was the place to be.
I had my doubts about how the social media stars would perform in a live setting but they definitely put on a fantastic show and I’m sure everyone in attendance would agree. With a little more experience and some more new music under their belts, North Star Boys just may be on pace to be one of the biggest acts on the planet.
The tour runs through the end of April, so be sure and grab a ticket!
