Kaash Paige Celebrates Her New Album S2ML in DC
Date: February 6th, 2023
Venue: Union Stage
Washington, DC
What’s up everyone, it’s Derek here! I’m back again with another night of music in Washington, DC. On this February evening, I took a journey down to D.C.’s Wharf and one of the best venues to discover up-and-coming artists in a sizable yet intimate setting, Union Stage. The artist in particular on this night was the soulful R&B singer from Texas, Kaash Paige.
Born in 2001 her music draws influence from the likes of SZA, HER, Drake, and Frank Ocean but make no mistake, she’s creating her own music and telling her own stories through strong melodies and lyrical focus.
This is why she quickly went from a well-received artist on SoundCloud a few years ago to a signed artist now with Def Jam Recordings. Her fan base is passionate and continues to grow at incredible speeds; many of them showed up in D.C.
As I arrived at the venue there were already plenty of fans there up against the stage and ready for an amazing night of music. Getting the night started was a fellow R&B artist making waves in the music industry, Amari’ Noelle.
It was only 1 year ago that she released her debut album Amari SZN 1, an album that embraces vulnerability and tenderness. With her set, it was clear her fan base, whether existing or created in the moment, absolutely adored her.
Songs like “I Want You” showcased her extreme talent especially when the beat dropped out and she owned the room with an acapella serenade.
As Noelle continued her set it was a constant vibe filled with love and appreciation. Even as she brought a fan on stage and began to sing to her and give her a personal dance experience.
Songs like “Lover Girl” and “Unusual” proved that she’s an artist we’ll be hearing from for a while all while remaining appreciative and showing love to her fans and even taking time to give roses out to certain fans. Make sure to keep her on your radar and listen to her latest album Love Is My Religion to understand the true talent she possesses.
As time drew closer for Paige to take the stage fans showed their love and excitement for the artist as they began to chant her name, eager to witness her talent live. So the time had finally come, as the lights faded, the crowd yelled with excitement.
After a brief audio intro, the track began and Kaash entered performing “Doubted Me” and the room erupted with wild energy. While the tour brings Paige to her fans in new cities much like D.C., and as we later learned it was her first time in the District, it also gives her a chance to share her latest album S2ML with fans in person.
Shortly after we were treated to another song from the album “Self Esteem” which truly showcased her vocal talent and storytelling.
As the evening continued we took a jump back to some of her previous albums and even went as far back as her Soundcloud days with songs like “Heartbreaker” and “Love Songs.” All the while fans sang along to every word, even yelling out their favorite song. Many requested one of her earlier singles with “Frank Ocean.”
At only 22 years old, Kaash Paige is certainly creating her space in the music industry and becoming more recognized for her talents every day. Already having worked with the likes of 24kGoldn and Don Toliver, it’s clear she’s an artist to watch and certainly a show you’ll want to see live. So check out what shows she has coming up, grab your tickets, and thank me later.
