Looking back at 2022 with Shutter 16
When I say we were busy, you have no idea! Take a deep breath, get a beer or a coffee, get comfy and let’s go! This will be a long read but worth it. Maybe you will see a tour you attended, a fave band you didn’t get to see, or a new favorite band you now want to see. This is how we approach our calendar, loose; the only stipulation I give my staff is to reach for a new genre or artist while also asking to cover your favorite. We want to support bands from all walks of life and popularity. If it’s quality music we’re there. Join us in reliving one HELL of a music year.
January: Undoubtedly, this month was a slow one. We were still in pandemic mode and the world was focusing on how to keep everyone safe while hermitting and plotting when they could finally see a concert in-person again. Also, this is when many bands with new albums in late 2022 were in their homes writing their next masterpiece.

February: The month of love and lockdowns… still. Tiktok romances were made by people flirting across their balconies and sending love letters via clothes lines. It was cold and mismiserable and everyone was over it! Some early venues opened up with a mask and vaccine mandate. Other bands prepared to go out touring the following season while keeping a close eye on how touring was going as things were just starting to open up. Oh and it was also that pesky (sarcasm) month of love.
We watched tales of bands getting Covid tests daily morning of shows and strict lockdowns backstage or even being in a photopit. Many photopit shoots were pushed to the mixer in the back of venue; if allowed to shoot at all. It was a slow month, but gave us hope.

March: Tours were back with a vengeance this month. Those brave enough to go went and enjoyed and during this time many tours started and ended just as quickly. It was a very serious yet emotive time. Every show you didn’t know if that was the last for a long time. The vibes were very palpable all the messages were the same, “We always say how much we love being here, but now it’s ten-fold. I am in awe to be up here again and feared it wouldn’t happen. Thank you for coming out!” Another slow-ish month for Shutter but, we all know it ramps up. I think my team deserved this time to focus on themselves and their family but I had emails over and over just begging for ANY show. Metalheads agree to a country concert, and country lovers agree to cover punk. It was like the wild-wild-west!

May: April brings showers May brings flowers and allergy season. Most feeds were junked up with everyone around the Carolina’s were sneezing, and it being a joke with “It’s NOT Covid, let me shoot!” and shoot we did It was one of the busiest months, and right before the cancelations started to flood int. We moshpitted, crowd-surfed, sobbed in the pit (it happened), rocked out, and also had a few nights of cathartic chilling while listening to our childhoods unfold on the stage. What an impossible yet beautiful month this was.
