Marc Anthony The Legacy Tour in NY
The Legacy Tour:
By: Diane Woodcheke
If one thing is going to warm you up on a cold winter night, it would be a white-hot concert and Marc Anthony does just that when he plays live. Not only is he on tour right now but Anthony’s fans have also been excited by a brand new release of a new song, “Tu Vida En La Mía” (Your Life In Mine), that dropped on February 21st. Adding to that excitement is the fact that this song will be part of a new salsa album, his first in almost six years. The full album is scheduled to be released sometime in May of this year.
Anthony has had an astonishing career with no signs of slowing down. He’s sold over twelve million albums worldwide and has two Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards, twenty-three Billboard Latin Music Awards and twenty-six Lo Nuestro Awards. And if this was not amazing enough, he also holds the Guinness World Record for being the best selling salsa artist with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard Tropical Albums Chart.
In the Fall of last year, he embarked on The Legacy Tour that has taken him to many large cities across North America, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. It included a stop to his New York City hometown arena Madison Square Garden. Continuing the tour into 2019, on Saturday, February 23rd he made another stop in New York, this time on Long Island. Again not far from his hometown, he visited the NYCB Live at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Needless to say, the venue was packed with adoring fans and by all appearances it looked as if it was completely sold out.
The evening started off with comedian Joey Vega. All during his twenty plus minute set, the audience was laughing and clearly enjoying themselves. No one left their seats, as they had the anticipation of a very short intermission. And with that in mind, it only felt like minutes till the arena went dark. Only the curtain on the stage was lit to illuminate the image of Marc Anthony’s face and the word Legacy. The Legacy Medley of “Rain on Me” / “I Need To Know” / “La Gozadera” / “Está rico” / “Felices los 4” played over the PA while some people were already up on their feet dancing.
When the curtain rose, so did the remainder of the crowd who were not already up. A roar of cheers greeted Anthony, who stood at the top of the staging in a crisp black suit and a bright white shirt, nicely buttoned down. He had a very wide smile on his face as he walked down the staircase to the microphone. Getting right down to it he did “Valió la pena” and “Y hubo alguien.” Many fans had brought with them the Puerto Rican flag and at different intervals, they would proudly raise and wave them.
Anthony, had his fans moving to “Hasta ayer,” “Flor pálida,” “Contra la Corriente” and a soothing ballad medley of “Abrázame muy Fuerte” / “Ahora quién” / “¿Y cómo es él?” Then after “Vivir Lo Nuestro” they did a salsa medley of “Te amaré” / “Palabra de Alma” / “Si te Vas” that had everyone up on their feet and spilling into the isles as they were dancing along to the beat.
There was also a drum and percussion solo that at one point Anthony got behind one the drum kits and joined in with them for a few minutes.
Keeping the momentum going they played “¿Qué Precio Tiene el Cielo?” “Te Conozco Bien” and the Héctor Lavoe cover, “Mi Gente.” If the audience was not up dancing they were in their seat swaying to the beat. Anthony briefly left the stage, but in no time flat he came back for a two-song encore of “Tu Amor Me Hace Bien” and “Vivir Mi Vida.”
The crowd was completely mesmerized throughout the whole show. There were even some visible tears of joy from fans so deeply in love with Marc Anthony’s music that their emotions just spilled out. Marc Anthony was absolutely captivating. He sang each song so perfectly and had fifteen of the most amazingly talented musicians accompanying him.
As of now Anthony is heading to Colombia in early March for a couple of shows but knowing how much he loves to take his music directly to his fans you should keep an eye on his website for more dates because you do not want to miss the next one.
